Introducing the CPC and bit-tech Podcast
If you were a regular reader of Custom PC and its website, you might be aware that the guys ran a regular podcast, recording 26 episodes split into two series. While
bit-tech recorded
one episode quite a while ago, it never took off. Since
bit-tech moved in to Dennis towers, we've all been keen to get into the studio and record a new podcast. Now, it's finally ready - for the moment, lacking a catchy name, we've gone for descriptive: the Custom PC and
bit-tech podcast.
CPC's history makes this first combined podcast episode one of series three. It features Alex and Clive from CPC, and editor of
bit-tech, Tim Smalley, and there's then a bonus episode featuring Rich and Harry from
bit-tech, plus Antony from CPC and Georgina the work experience girl. We're hoping to make the combined podcast a regular feature, so you'll hear from everyone on both teams.
In this episode of the podcast, Tim, Clive and Alex talk about the flood of new graphics cards we've seen recently from AMD and Nvidia, including the
GeForce GTX 275 and Radeon HD 4890, and the recently launched, budget spectacular which is the
Radeon HD 4770.
Also under the microscope is
AMD's Phenom II X4 955 BE, and the team debate whether this is the beginning of a real return to form for AMD or whether Intel's upcoming dual-channel Nehalem CPUs will put an end to that. The team then talk about what they're looking forward to, including aforementioned Nehalems, Windows 7 and for Tim in particular, a new laptop in the shape of a Lenovo Thinkpad X301.
Two regular features from the CPC podcast return: the first is a discussion of the games chart, and the second is the 'Guess the Game Music' competition. We play a tune from a popular game, and all you have to do is tell us where it's from. The lucky winner receives a copy of frantic indie RTS
Project Aftermath.
Listen now
Episodes are provided as MP3s, and you can download the files themselves, or subscribe to the podcast - either in iTunes, or in any other podcast program, feedreader or browser which supports RSS.
Bonus content
In addition to a brand new regular episode of the show, we've also put together some bonus content. Our last
round-up of energy drinks went down very well (with you the readers, less so with us, the testers), so we've grabbed another selection of caffeine-packed beverages to try out. Be warned, this episode contains some very strong condemnation of beverages and strong gastric reactions.
If you subscribe in iTunes or to the RSS feed, it should show up as normal.
There's also a video slideshow version of this episode of the podcast available - it's a weighty 313MB download, but features pictures to accompany the beverage testing.

We'd like to thank Shure for supplying microphones for us to use to record this podcast.
