Episode 5 of the CPC and bit-tech Podcast
In keeping with our new strategy of rotating podcast topics, after last week's look at gaming, this week we're talking hardware. Clive, James, Mark and Harry took a break from
testing Lynnfield and SSDs to talk about the important happenings in the world of technology.
For the labs test in the most recent issue of Custom PC, James and Antony tested 47 different case fans, and the podcast starts off with some discussion about how you actually go about testing the humble case fan. Then it's on to Nvidia's
single-PCB GeForce GTX 295, and of course, a general discussion about how the company is fairing these days, something Tim covered in his recent feature on
Nvidia's future.
The panel also take the time to go over the moribund selection of
Core i5, LGA 1156 coolers we reviewed recently. The fastest Phenom II we've ever seen, the
X4 965 Black Edition also comes up for discussion. By default it's clocked at 3.4GHz, with 1.4v sizzling through it, compared to Intel's similarly clocked CPUs which can make do with 1.1v. Impressive stuff, especially when you consider that it's under £200, but why have they bothered - is it for overclockers? Is it really that fast? Is it just the last gasp of Phenom II?
Listen carefully and you can also win a copy of
Zeno Clash by guessing the game music we play, as well. Plus, the team attempt some spectacularly rubbish Irish accents.
