Crysis Mutliplayer Beta Impressions
Crysis. That one incorrectly spelt world seems to say volumes nowadays. Without meaning to add to all the hype and end up getting grandiose on yo’ ass,
Crysis is the current posterboy for the future of PC graphics – a game so massively anticipated that every game except
Half-Life: Episode 2 and
Halo 3 shrink away from it in reverence and fear and – no, wait. Calm down, Joe. Don’t get caught up in the hype.
Maybe that’s a piece of advice we could all learn a bit from. You see, last time Team
Bit-tech got a chance to
preview Crysis it was a hands-on affair done over at the i31. I wasn’t there then, but both Tim and Bindi had a chance to have a go on the singleplayer beta and they reached some conclusions which were seen by
some as a bit controversial.
With that in mind, I seized the chance to have a go on the
Crysis multiplayer and tried my best to approach the game with an open mind. I tried to keep in mind that I was playing a beta, not a full release and that the game would therefore not necessarily be representative of the finished product.
Of course, keeping that in mind isn’t especially hard when you’re limited to playing one game mode and one single map. Thankfully, the beta was still well populated thanks to being opened on FilePlanet to anybody with one of the special subscriptions.

To me, entering into the beta alone felt like being assigned a secret mission and I had to fill in numerous forms, sign up to special accounts and sign away my soul on various agreements and conditions designed to ensure that I wouldn’t let anybody else play the game. Of course, I’ve never been one to play by the rules, so if you want to download the full beta version of the game then click

Well, ok, not really – but at least
bit-tech is now a little less hungry from eating your brain.
Needless to say that as I signed myself into the beta and got started with the multiplayer half of the game, my head was filled with questions and thoughts. It wasn’t helped by the crowd that had started to congregate around my PC to watch either.
Would
Crysis still manage bowl me over with it’s graphics? As more of a gameplay fanatic than a graphics whore, would there still be enough in the game to keep me interested content-wise? There was only way to find out, so I strapped on my nano-muscle suit, grabbed a fresh bowl to collect my drool in and sat down to immerse myself in
Crysis.
