I, too, couldn't control the car in the demo and ended up in complete doughnuts and just turned the darn thing off.....I'm just too used to GT5:P I guess.....

Getting used to the drifting in GRID is an endurance trial, if anything. First time through I barely managed 1000 points, but after some constant repetition, it's a hell of a lot more fun, and easier.

How do the both of you accelerate when you're trying to drift?

other then that great racing game but we really need another MOTORHEAD

i want a G25 !!!!!! I've been checking youtube videos for a week now and my hunger for racing games is bigger than ever ! Too bad I can't even run the damn game though

Just buy one already :p You won't regret it.

As for GRID, well I've said this before but as long as you approach this game with Arcade in mind, then it's a lot of fun. I on the other hand assumed Codemasters were going back to their TOCA roots with this, and was grossly mistaken so I was very disappointed.

At least drifting is fun. Can't stand the rest of the game though. The handling feels like driving on ice to me, even with all the difficulty options set up.

that's too bad

I was hoping for a great next gen game for when I (if ever) update my stupid PC. Grid seemed like that game but looks like I will have to play older sim games like GTR2 and LFS2, which both have underwhelming graphics :-/

I too was initially frustrated by the drifting - the trick is not to just go full throttle, but to adjust your throttle according to the level of your drift. Took a little bit of practise, but i can now score drifts of well over 1 million points with maybe a few hours practise.

i noticed that right away and thought "WTF!!??!!"

you want highly accurate go for GTR2, Nascar 2003, Grand Prix Legends, Live For Speed. :)

anyways, back on topic. I tried out the demo and didnt even finish a race before I turned it off. Pure garbage to me. Oh well many others will love it.

I do think Dirt was a good game. The graphics were pretty good, damage model was great. Tracks looked good but they went for mass market and not hardcore racing simmers so the physics werent that realistic. So far one of the best Rally games ive played would have to be Richard Burns Rally.

and don't use the handbrake, turn in early for the flag points.
if you use the handbrake, you'll 80% end up doing doughnuts.

I remember the first time I played it on the demo (I forget the track name) and literally went backwards into the opposite wall of the first corner.

Experimentation is fun!

However, I do use the handbrake (More often than not anyway) at the start of a corner, or down the longer 'straights' to keep the chain going. I dunno, but I find it a lot easier to get a controlled drift going that way. I can't drive it like that in anything but the head view mode, which is weird. Did you use the cockpit drift angle measuring thing?

That triggered a memory...

There was a racing game for the PC several years ago that tried out clutching, but for the life of me I can't remember its name.

If that's all you can think of, May I suggest either laying down in a darkened room until the thoughts have passed, or engage yourself in an alternative activity.

As for GRID, I'll be picking up the full version tonight I think.

i play loads of driving games, but generally will have one favourite at a time. this keeps me attuned to that particular engine/feel. a couple of years ago it was Colin Mcrae 5, then GTR2, then DiRT and now this is really my favourite driving game period. I love the graphics (who wouldn't they're amazing) my digital projector easily handles this game at 1360x768 with everything set to ultra all effects except motion blur turned on (i love my 8800GT).

gameplay-wise, i agree with the review, except one thing i have noticed and love the most is the traction control option. switching traction control off really makes the game very difficult in all but the slowest cars, leading to a very immersive experience which requires you to have full throttle control and keep your car right on the boil to keep up with the front runners. Absolutely amazing, and done in a way where the lack of car setup and qualifying laps really don't ever detract from how fun each race is, whether its tyre to tyre street racing in detroit or open wheel laps of donnington.

put simply, if you like driving games, this should be no1 on the list.

LIRATHEAL - sorry, but wtf are you on about? i mean you're not seriously trying to say that because most of us don't actually own dodge vipers, that we don't have the right to be good at driving games???

does that mean cos i've never held a real machine gun in my hands that i'm somehow never gonna be any good at Call of Duty?

hell I cant control the car.best was cmr 2 .i could control cars and win races.here you need a wheel to play the game.if dont intend to buy one forget about dirt.

That's simply not true! I know a few guys who are quite happily playing the game with a Xbox 360 controller for Windows gamepad
After using it on their 360's, they find it easier to use the same controller on their PC's.
A wheel is preferable to most of us, for sure... but you certainly don't "need" a wheel to play GRID
