EVGA wins the newly invested Award for Common Sense Naming with its range of GTX 460 cards – stock-speed cards such as this one are merely called GTX 460 768MB, while its overclock versions get the tag ‘Superclocked’. It couldn’t be much clearer, at least not without sounding boringly generic.

The EVGA has the reference cooler, with its copper contact plate, two 6mm-thick heatpipes and radial heatsink design. Onto this blows a 92mm fan – job done. As a stock-speed card, the GPU has a core frequency of 675MHz while its 336 stream processors run at 1,350MHz. The 768MB of GDDR5 memory operates at 900MHz (3.6GHz effective) and at £179 the card costs exactly the suggested price that Nvidia has set. The card has a two-year warranty as standard, which you can upgrade to three years of cover by registering your card.

EVGA’s GTX 460 768MB Superclocked card is set to cost £195, as it’s been pushed pretty hard by the EVGA design team. The card still uses the reference cooler, but the core has been pushed from 675MHz to 763MHz and the 336 stream processors from 1,350MHz to 1,526MHz. This is an aggressive 13 per cent GPU overclock, and has been twinned with an increased memory frequency, from 900MHz to 950MHz. EVGA sent us both samples, but we think we’ll give the Superclocked card a whirl first.
