Case modding is truly getting to be a popular phenomenon. There have been some pretty large steps into the public eye lately, but one of the most interesting has been the "live show" at LAN events lately. It was just such an occurrence at a Dutch LAN event, "The Party 5", that tripped off our next case mod.

Stievius, Blackcrown and Jensn had been asked by the show administration to perform a live case-mod. Granted, an honour like that isn't just handed out - so undoubtedly, these guys have a lot more credibility than the few posts we've seen so far in our forums. So come on, guys! Bring us more of your work!

Anyhow, back to the mod - the team disassembled a rather boring old Xion Stacker case (yes, it does look somewhat like...nevermind). Of course, only a portion of the mod could be done live - so the rest is appearing in our forums over time.

We've said it before, we'll say it again - all good mods come with a plan. This is especially true when you have a set amount of time (like a live show) to do that mod in. Needless to say, the guys got right to work ripping apart the case that had only been in their hands a little bit before.

Because of the difficulties due to the time pressure, the team thought ahead and pre-cut some of the aluminium necessary for the job. That left more time for careful points like LED wiring and testing, such as the beautifully glowing front panel. With the LEDs tested and set deep in the plexi, it was time to move on to other things.

A blowhole was cut in the top of the mod to fit the theme, which was later given some modder's mesh. Flanking both sides of the top is more acrylic work. Acrylic is used as an accent all across the mod, in fact - the right picture shows the bottom plate about to be cut from a milky acrylic.

That bottom plate would eventually end up being a bit of a pain thanks to the lighted feet, which bled upwards into the case.

By the time the guys had finished at the LAN, Xionized was already an attractive piece of work. Of course, a good mod is never done, and so since that point, it's been all about filling the case. There are plans in the log for a custom reservoir and a nice water cooling loop. I would say we'll see how it turns out, but if you look at the original design and the final picture, it's pretty clear that we're just talking exactly how well.

We'll just have to keep an eye on the worklog Stievius is updating to find out.
