Na'ir al Saif by oldnewby
Project log: Here
Oldnewby's previous project,
the Cygnus X1 took
bit-tech by storm last year and came first in our
Mod of the Year competition - and rightly so! Oldnewby has some serious skills and we wouldn't be surprised if Na'ir al Saif went on to similar acclaim judging from the progress so far.
This mod definitely had an unconventional start in life, including oldnewby cutting up some old graphics cards. We worried that this Aussie modder had lost the plot a bit - but as you can see from the progress here, it was all part of the plan.
The purpose of stripping the PCB and removing other components from the old graphics card soon became clear - it was to make the foundation of a PCI expansion slot hard drive caddy.
With standard fans not sporting the kind of pizazz that he was looking for, oldnewby proceeded to make his own housings and nose cones. This is just a snippet of what he managed to do this month, so make sure you take a look at his
project log for the full details.
In some more recent updates, the case is really coming along and in a really interesting photo we can see the guts of Cygnus X1 next to what exists so far of the new project. A Mod of the Year 2010 nominee in the making? We'll have to wait and see.
