Okay, before we go any further, I have a confession to make. I ... never played
Gears of War. Yes, I know I should of and yes I know its supposed to be a good game. It
looks like a good game.
Still, on the plus side, at least I'll get to play it when it comes out on PC under the Games For Windows brand.
Microsoft
announced recently that
Gears of War will no longer be an Xbox 360 exclusive and will switch to PC in the near future with DirectX 10 support integrated in. Yum.
What's more, the game will see a fair few extras flung in, including five new levels, a new level editor and quote, unquote,
"Some very big surprises". As long as those surprises don't include massive spiders jumping out of toilets at us then we'll be fine.
Also shifting to the Games For Windows brand will be the Xbox 360 game,
Viva Pinata which, to be honest, I never even wanted to play because it used too many shades of neon for my personal tastes. Still, at least it makes a great excuse to show everybody the completely random pinata which for some reason has always sat directly behind me, staring at me with its cold, evil eyes.
A recent press release gives the full list of games which are now on the Games For Window list and, while the list is fluffed up a bit with some lesser titles there are some big hitters on the list too.
- Strangehold
- Blacksite: Area 51
- Clive Barker's Jericho
- Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts
- Age of Empires III: The Asian Dynasties
- Fallout 3
- Kane & Lynch: Dead Men
- Operation Flashpoint™ 2
- Sid Meier’s Civilization IV: Beyond the Sword
- The Witcher
- Turning Point™: Fall of Liberty
On top of this, Eidos, SEGA and THQ have all announced they will be joining Microsoft in supporting the Games For Window Live Online service, with titles like
Gears of War and
Kane and Lynch already signed up.
Any of these games on your 'must-have' list? Already played
Gears of War on the 360 and want to tell me just what I'm missing out on? Do all that, and more, in
