Midway, publisher of
Unreal Tournament 3, has said that the PS3 version of the game may suffer a delay as Epic rushes to finish the game. The PS3 port may not go gold in time for Christmas after all.
Unreal Tournament 3 was originally slated for a November release on the PC and PlayStation 3. An Xbox 360 version of the game was supposed to follow in early 2008 after the timed PS3 exclusive had expired.
Midway has also announced that
Blacksite: Area 51 has also been delayed a little, but has not revealed until when.
Epic Games, developer of
Unreal Tournament 3 has
said that it's struggling to get the PS3 version of the game finished in time for Christmas but that it is committed to making a complete game and doesn't want to rush the process in order to launch at Christmas.
Mark Rein, studio boss and mouthpiece for Epic, has said "
As a public company, Midway felt an obligation to its shareholders to let them know about the possibility of a delay, but our goal is still to get the PS3 version of UT3 in stores before the end of 2007."
Rein says that Epic isn't offering any guarantees though and that the game may well slip as Midway have projected. The PC version is still on track for a November release.
