We love Tim Schafer, so this news report may be just the tiny bit biased in favour of his new game, but you can't really blame us can you? We're talking about Tim Schafer here! The ex-Lucasarts developer whose crazy, twisted brain bought us games like
Full Throttle,
The Secret of Monkey Island,
Day of The Tentacle,
Grim Fandango and
Psychonauts.
Considering that every single one of his games can usually be found on Top 50 lists, that's quite a resume.
Now, Schafer has unveiled his next game;
Brutal Legend, to be made by his own studio, Double Fine.
Brutal Legend will be a third person action game starring Eddie Riggs, a heavy metal roadie voiced by Jack Black, who is pulled into a heavy-metal and Nordic fantasy world by a cursed belt buckle in the shape of the Motorhead emblem.
The game looks to be a furious action game for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, with Eddie wielding a battle-axe and bass guitar as weapons as he faces down enemies such as a Lord Dolvicus, heavy-metal ruler of this strange new world.
The press release for the game is especially noteworthy, talking about how Schafer and company have finally unlocked the key to a time known as The Age of Metal, having been guided by sacred power chords and blessed bass drums.
"
Holy crap!” exclaimed Schafer, “I have been dreaming about this day for fifteen years. And now it is finally here. We’ve gathered small clues over the years about the Age of Metal, in songs, t-shirts, and album covers. But now we have uncovered the metal mother lode, the full legend of what actually happened in that loud and heavy era, and we are the lucky ones who get to tell the tale.” Says the press release.
You can check out the
trailer for the game, read our recent interview feature with Schafer's close friend and co-worker,
