It’s IDF Day Minus One out here in Shanghai and we’re getting ready for a flurry of announcements from Intel this week during its Spring Developer Forum.
We were amongst the first to arrive here in Shanghai and what’s more surprising than passing ex-Inquirer honcho Mike Magee—a man that said he’d never do another IDF after
the last one in September—on the way to our seats on the plane was of course looking at the schedule in our welcome pack once we'd arrived.
It’s clear that the chip giant is preparing to make multiple announcements on everything related to its recently-announced Atom processors.
We’ll be hearing about all things ultra mobility, with multiple keynotes, briefings and press conferences scheduled to cover everything from MIDs to Netbooks and Nettops. And, by the end of the week, it’s likely that we’ll have enough detail to gather where this quickly-expanding portion of the market is heading.
Of course, that’s not all Intel is likely to talk about during the conference and given that the company has already recently talked about both
Nehalem and Larrabee, we expect there to be more details revealed this week.

Both Justin Rattner and Pat Gelsinger scheduled to give keynotes during IDF, so keep an eye out for there should be a flurry of announcements on that front as well. We’ll be on the front lines to bring you the action as it happens - stay tuned for what’s coming from IDF.
For those of you wondering why it's not Day Zero today, that title is reserved for tomorrow when Intel traditionally holds its Research Day for members of the press - IDF proper doesn't start until Wednesday. Most of the press have gone out sightseeing today but, as this isn't my first visit to Shanghai, I've opted to spend the day catching up on some work that I didn't get done before I left.
The good news is that, unlike last time I was here, the Great Firewall of China appears to not be affecting me too much this time around. My email appears to be working for the most part and I was quite surprised to find that DNS from
this weekend's server move had already propagated to China when I first managed to get onto the 'net.
