Both NzC and Fod achieved first place in the June-July bit-tech POTM contest.
Congratulations to forum members NzC and Fod, who both achieved joint first place in June-July's Photo of the Month competition, themed "Emotion" with their entries "Wonder" and "Alone".
We also want to congratulate Akpoly, who claims second place with his entry "Her Wedding Day", while third place went to Zabe with his entry "Yearning Over a Loved One".
Yet again, we have hooked up with OCZ Technology to give some awesome prizes away to the winners.
The full set of results are as follows:
The
bit-tech digital art forum and the
Photo of the Month site are the main hubs for our photography competition. It is held monthly and open to anyone that wants to enter as long as you're a member of our forums (it's free to register)! The picture can be any photograph of your interpretation of that month's theme, and there is no restriction on what camera you can use. Entries have to be submitted by the 25th of the month, giving you plenty of time to get snapping. The winners are decided by the voting of others who have also entered.
Since winning, NzC has given us our first theme for August which is
"Culture", the second theme from Fod is "points of view". We'll leave it open to chose which theme you want to use, and you can mix and match between them to the usual a maximum submission of two photos.
Good luck to everyone for August and if you have any questions or comments, drop them
over here.
Culture, huh? That's another tough one. Could turn out to be interesting :)
How about two themes this month?
Will it be two separate competitions, or will we be able to choose between the two?
Maybe make it so that there will be a maximum of one entry per theme per person. (Seeing as two entries are allowed today, this won't bring any changes to the POTM site.)
I'm all for keeping it simple.

right, my theme suggestion stands: "points of view"
Well that's why we have 1-5 scores and that's why life is full of hard decisions. We're not asking you to choose between your children :p
I'm just trying to be fair here and get you all outside.
1) We are not having two themes from now on - ONLY this month because there was two winners last month
2) You can use either theme - this gives you more CHOICE and should also stop people whinging.
Just to be clear, I feel as though there should be ONE theme and it should be determined through a vote between 'points of view' and 'culture', the theme with most votes sticks. If we split the competition up into two themes there will then be two winners once again...how do you decipher what the next theme will be?
Jesus you lot love to over complicate things don't you - I'm giving you a choice, the whole point of starting the POTM is to get you out there. We can stop it if it's too much hassle for you all??
Richard, I respect your position as a Staff member...but how can you vote between two themes one time, its like choosing between milk or motor oil. If anything, two themes is over complicating things. TBH, in the end I really could care less...just stating my opinion is all...no need to get all antsie in your pantsie ;)
When I vote I try to find which picture fits the theme, and which one looks the best. Sometimes the quality of some photos are very close, but one is always better tan the other. It doesn't really matter what theme it fits into, as long as it fits into one of them.
And it's not like choosing between milk and motor oil. It's more like choosing between milk, and low fat-milk. Some like the former, and some like the latter. Vote for whatever you like. Shouldn't be a problem, should it?
In the end the competition is more fun than a real competition. It's a source of inspiration and challenge for people. So take it easy! No lives is at stake here.
And CONGRATS to the two winners. I'm glad Fod got his theme through :D A very BW top 3 this month and all very good.
Here's to an exciting new month with the rich choice between two themes!
Cheers!
Really? 'Culture' and 'points of view' are related how? Not any more than milk or motor oil and certainly far from milk and low fat milk. I honestly don't really mind what you do in the end but as I said I will voice my opinion and I'll stick with my reasoning :D
A photograph could also try to explain a cultures point of view on things.
So it is sort of related. Unless you drink motor oil... ;)
Anyway, Who said the themes had to be related? You could still submit two separate photos.
Uhhh...you, when you said its like choosing between milk and low fat milk. The point is, there are two different themes, there should be a winner per theme. How that doesn't make sense to some of you is beyond me.
You are still rating the photo based on technical merit and how well it fits the theme. The one that fits both of that the most, is the one you give your highest vote to. Everything else follows.
No. That analogy was to show that even though they are pictures taken for two different themes, they can still be put up against each other when voting over the quality of the photos.
And even tough there is two different themes, the challenge is still the same for every participant. One theme may be easier than the other, but everybody have the choice to choose the "easiest".
Come on, you know what I'm saying! :)
grabphoto of this thread as my entry this month. At the end of the day, I'll try to think of an idea that fits one or the other, or both. I just wonder why, if we have multiple themes, we bother having any themes at all. We could just let each person pick his or her own theme and let everyone decide how the photographer best applied his or her photo to that theme.

Oh get off that horse. However much I'd ever agree that you are quite right just let it go this one month. It'll happen once and then that's it. Take it as a challenge to your selective mind ;) It's one time for Petes sake. I can't help seeing what Bindi meant about us being pedantic. Isn't it enough that most on the photo forum keep replying to the articles with corrections to spelling and grammatical mistakes? :p
Sometimes you have to choose whether you want an argument for the sake of the argument or because you indeed do feel the need for change. And yes that "you" includes me. Hypocritical? Yes very much. But tell me how anyone can be broadly-minded and state an opinion without being hypocritical.
See what you did? You made me go all philosophical. Shame on you :p Just have both the cupcakes at once and enjoy it just this one time ;)
I'll say it again. At the end of the day, I'll still go out and take photos.

:)
Number of threads and added pics match. There are 6 threads (one with 2 pics) and there have been 7 additions to the potm gallery. So I would say yes :)
I guess this months themes was pretty hard.
I think it's more a case of random taking its turn. Otherwise I have yet to understand what makes the key difference in themes to explain the numbers of submitted pictures.
What what?? This can't be happening?! Now if it's closed on time as well I'll start getting suspicious.
Only thing left to say then will be "47"
Will alert winner in a mo
:)
Name & 'shame'.
