Rumour. Strictly a rumour for now, but still a
very juicy one which goes back a long way to the beginning of this year when Gearbox Software announced that they were working on a super secret and unannounced title. It was big, they said. Really, really big.
All very well and interesting stuff, until everyone forgot about it. Everyone that is, except for the Official Xbox Magazine who went ahead and did some investigating and heard from inside sources that the new project was...
Halo 4.
According to these anonymous sources and their info and speculation, Gearbox has been working on
Halo 4 since February under Microsoft's order and the plan is to release the game as a launch title for the new Xbox 720 model, the successor to the Xbox 360.
Bungie meanwhile has stated quite emphatically that it has no interest in creating more and more
Halo games for the rest of time. Thus, with Microsoft retaining the license to future
Halo titles and Gearbox having a history of making both excellent games of their own and top quality expansion packs like
Half-Life: Opposing Force, the rumours does seem quite possible.
On top of all that, the top brass at Gearbox is apparently involved in the project with company head Randy Pitchford stepping in as director to the secret game, though nobody at Gearbox has yet directly confirmed or refuted the rumour.
What do you think? Do you buy into the gossip, or is Microsoft going to let
Halo die? Let us know what you think in
