Electronic Arts has announced that it will be creating a new
Dungeon Keeper game called
Dungeon Keeper Online. The game will apparently be a departure for the established PC series and will be an online-only MMO game.
Dungeon Keeper Online is apparently the result of a partnership between Electronic Arts and Chinese MMO developer NetDragon Websoft, who have gained access to all previous intellectual content of the
Dungeon Keeper series as part of the deal.
Unfortunately though, there is some bad news. Electronic Arts has only announced
Dungeon Keeper Online for eastern territories - namely China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau. Currently it doesn't look like it will be getting a western release at all.
"
We are delighted to enter into an agreement with EA in the development of our first 3D MMORPG. Our partnership with this internationally renowned game developer is proof of our capabilities in game operations and development as well as a reflection of our market reputation," said Mr. Liu Dejian, Chairman and Executive Director of NetDragon in
a press release.
"
The partnership marks a significant milestone for EA as it will enhance our intellectual property and extend our product reach throughout the Greater China region," continued an EA spokesperson.
Needless to say, with the most of the old
Dungeon Keeper crew working for the Microsoft-owned Lionhead Studios, including Peter Molyneux, it doesn't seem likely that any of the original talent will be lending a hand to ensure that the classic
Dungeon Keeper humour is carried over into the remake.
