Peripherals giant Razer is becoming increasingly unfocused in its desire to diversify, announcing the launch of 'a digital content platform featuring tutorials and insights on the future of music production.'
That Razer is looking to expand its horizon beyond mice, keyboards, and headsets for gamers is neither new nor secret: the company has dipped its toes into the
VR market,
speaker market,
concept PC market,
laptop and
tablet markets, and even launched a
'studio grade' microphone. The latter ties in nicely, in fact, to the company's latest venture: Razer Music.
'
The Razer Music portal works with producers and creators, providing an easy-to-use location to share content, trade secrets and tips on music making,' the company's announcement explains. '
The site features video tutorials, as well as long form articles about music production and the technology used in the creation process. It also includes a dedicated page for each artist with music, tour dates, bios and more.'
The launch comes as Razer looks to position its Blade laptop range as suitable for more than just gaming, beginning with a deal to bundle Image-Line's FL Studio Producer Edition software with every laptop - and even those who have already bought a 2015 model year Blade, who can claim a free copy post-facto. '
What unites the artists in the Razer Music initiative is the use of the Razer Blade as their primary laptop for music production,' the company claims of a line-up which includes deadmau5, Carnage, Project 46, Varien, Burns, Maor Levi, and Feed Me. '
While the Blade was designed for gamers, Razer realized that many producers were also gamers who used their Razer systems for their music production, which prompted Razer Music.'
'
Artists and DJs from all over the world have connected with me to discuss producing on the Razer Blade,' claimed Min-Liang Tan, Razer co-founder and chief executive, at the launch. '
The power and portable form factor of our systems offers artists the performance they need, whether in the studio, on the road or onstage.'
More information on Razer Music is available from the
official website.
