Following up from last weeks announcement that Obsidian Entertainment (Neverwinter Nights 2, KoTOR 2) will be making an Alien based RPG, SEGA has now announced that Gearbox Software will be making the Alien FPS.

Disappointingly, the press release implies that these games will be developed primarily for the next-gen consoles. That isn't to say that they won't make it over to the PC - Gearbox Software has created PC FPS games such as Brothers in Arms in the past - but it represents a growing trend in publisher's focusing their money and attention away from PC gaming.

Randy Pitchford, President of Gearbox Software, loves Alien:

“The Alien series has been a tremendous influence for myself, the people at Gearbox Software and the video games industry in general. The opportunity to work with the amazing people at SEGA and Fox to build a next generation video game in the Alien universe is one of those dream projects that is a perfect fit for our capability and our passion.”

As of yet there isn't a confirmed date for the games but expect it to be sometime in 2008. Will this week be the week we find out there will also be an Alien RTS? Don't be too surprised if we do.

Looking forward to the Alien games? Let us know in the forums.
