Ubisoft has officially confirmed that it will now be publishing
The Wheelman - the secretive and oft-delayed racing game based on Vin Diesel's next movie.
The title was originally meant to be published by Midway, but since the publisher is
facing tough times lately the game has since emigrated to Ubisoft as part of a "
strategic relationship".
Ubisoft has decided to put the pedal to the metal too, confirming a March release for the racing game. The company has also confirmed that a pre-launch demo will be out for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on March 24th for North America, March 27th for Europe.
This new relationship between the two publishing houses means that Midway will continue to develop the movie tie-in, while Ubisoft will assume all the publishing duties and extra details, such as marketing.
"
We are pleased to be partnering with Midway to bring Wheelman to stores worldwide," said Ubisoft's Tony Key, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing in a statement. "
The cutting edge open-world driving technology in Wheelman should make for an experience that gamers will enjoy."
"
The demo due out for Xbox 360 and PS3 will show that Wheelman's new game design mechanics like cinematic super moves and vehicular combat will revolutionize driving games," said a Midway spokesperson, who confirmed that the title is being developed in Newcastle.
The deal is well timed for Midway it seems, as the company was only yesterday given the go ahead to continue spending by the Federal Bankrupty Court, who are hoping the publisher can work off some of its huge debt. Do you think they can do it? Let us know your thoughts
