Infinity Ward has waited until the last minute to reveal another snippet of information that will likely dismay PC gamers who are otherwise looking forward to
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 - this time involving the player count.
While previous PC games in the
Call of Duty franchise have supported 32 players, the new version will fall in line with the console version and support only 18 players.
The comments came in a
Best Buy Live Chat (via
Eurogamer), where Infinity Ward's Mackey McCandlish confirmed that the maximum player count for online matches has been slashed.
According to Infinity Ward a cap of 18 players makes the game much easier to balance when it comes to map sizes, perks, classes and challenges.
The fact that it makes map sizes easier to balance is an important point, as
the introduction of IWNet means there will no longer be user generated content for the game - so no huge maps.
Many PC gamers are feeling increasingly neglected by Infinity Ward judging by comments in our forums, with the developer clamping down on dedicated servers, user mods and now player counts too - though Infinity Ward says it's all for the best.
The game itself launches on November 10th, but until then you can let us know your thoughts in
the forums.
