Team Dakota's Project Spark, a collaborative game development environment for Microsoft's gaming platforms, has entered public beta for those who have invested in an Xbox One.

Designed to evoke the same feeling of unbridled creativity as Sony's hit LittleBigPlanet, but offering far more flexibility, Project Spark has been running as a closed beta for Xbox One and Windows 8 users. Now, with most of the major bugs ironed out, its creators have opened the doors for general access - but, sadly for those who prefer the PC as a platform, only on Xbox One.

Those who have picked up Microsoft's latest consoles can find the new Project Spark beta in the Xbox One Store, where it is available for free download. Once installed, users will be able to immediately start creating their game environments - and while many features have yet to be activated, the community that has built up around the closed beta has already begun to work on some quite impressive creations.

For those who had pre-installed the title but who have not received a beta key, there's the possibility that Project Spark will get itself into a locked state; the fix, according to Microsoft's Larry 'Major Nelson' Hryb, is to choose the 'Request Beta Key' option at the menu, quit Project Spark and then re-load it - at which point it should unlock with full beta access, as with fresh installs.

If you're curious as to what Project Spark can do at this early stage in its development, Team Dakota has released a short montage of work from the community which is reproduced below.
