Double Fine’s space-based base building sim Spacebase DF-9 is nearing its 1.0 release and is getting ready to break out of Early Access mode.
Development is drawing to a close before all of the previously promised features have been completed and a list of planned features has been removed from its Early Access page on Steam.
Spacebase DF-9’s 1.0 release will be its final major update according to Double Fine. Any extra features that players want in the game will have to instead come from the modding community, which the independent publisher intends to support.
’We’ll be releasing the game’s full Lua source code a short time after 1.0, which will allow the community to create potentially far-ranging mods that add content, new features, and change some fundamental game behaviors,’ reads an update on the Steam page. ’Any new content for the game will now be in your hands. We’re eager to see what people do with this game!’
Double Fine does clarify that although it has no further content development plans for the game, it will commit resources to bug fixing and general support.
Spacebase DF-9 has been available and playable on Steam Early Access since October 2013. Between now and its full release, Double Fine intends to add a tutorial, a goal system, bug fixes and general polish for the game.
