Sony has sold 18.5 million Playstation 4 units worldwide since its launch in 2013.
Of the 18.5 million, 4.1 million consoles were shifted during 2014s Christmas period alone, between November 23 and January 4.
As well as the console itself performing well, sales stats held by Sony also show that 81.8 million software units have been sold. Additionally, playstation plus subscriptions reached 10.9 million this month.
The figures place the Playstation 4 as the fastest selling console in the UK, surpassing the record initially set by the console's grandfather the Playstation 2. To fully beat that much loved console's record, the Playstation 4 needs to sell more than 150 million units in its lifetime.
The Playstation 4's main console rival, the Xbox One, has not seen any updated sales figures following the Christmas period, but Microsoft did reveal in November that it had sold approximately 10 million units to retailers, suggesting that the Playstation 4 may be pulling ahead in the race.
The Playstation 4 and Xbox One first launched within weeks of each other in November 2013 with the Playstation 4 reportedly taking an early sales lead.
Over this Christmas, both consoles suffered at the hands of a DDOS attack from now-unpopular hacker group Lizard squad, taking the Playstation Network and Xbox Live out of action on Christmas day.
