Wargaming has today announced it is now accepting applications to the closed beta of its upcoming free-to-play, turn-based collectible card card game, World of Tanks Generals.

First announced at Gamescom 2012, World of Tanks Generals is entirely browser-based, with Wargaming promising that it will be playable on tablets and smartphones (iOS and Android), with the ability to switch devices and carry on playing. For the closed beta stage, however, it will be PC only. As such, all you need to join in is a PC with an internet connection and a Wargaming.net account – Wargaming's unified account for all its free-to-play games and services.

'Our main goal with Closed Beta is to evolve the game into the incredible experience we’re aiming for', said Andrey Zimenko, Director of Global Operations, World of Tanks Generals. 'We've put a lot of effort into the game and are looking forward to seeing how testers like the current version, as well as hear their ideas and suggestions about the game's future.'

For deck building, the Closed Beta will feature over 200 unique cards from three factions; the USA, Germany and USSR. Decks include headquarters, tanks, artillery, orders and squads as well as bonus cards with things like additional firepower or defences. Presumably, more cards and possibly factions will be added to the game at a later date, though nothing is yet confirmed.

Gameplay will be split between PvP, turn-based 1-on-1 battles and PvE training modes against opponents of varying difficulty levels. Details on how the game plays are scarce for now, but we do know that as well as picking and playing the right cards at the right times, winning also relies on positioning cards in optimal locations on the virtual battlefield, adding an extra level of tactics not found in many other collectible card games. Further details on the closed beta are available in the video below:

Wargaming is no stranger to beta testing its games. This news follows that of the second beta weekend for the upcoming World of Warships, which took place in January.
