Warner Bros. cancels Batman: Arkham Knight OS X, Linux ports

Following the long-running problems and blanket refunds for the Windows version of Batman: Arkham Knight, publisher Warner Bros. has announced that it is cancelling plans to release ports of the game for OS X and Linux.

Released in June last year, Batman: Arkham Knight was quickly pulled from sale following reports from Windows gamers that it was a hot mess of bugs and performance issues. Patches followed, and the game was officially re-released in October but with many outstanding issues and bugs. The result: facing a flood of complaints, Warner Bros. issued a blanket refund policy for anyone disappointed by the title, regardless of how long they had been playing it.

All the while, the company had claimed to be working on OS X and Linux ports of the title - even taking pre-orders for both versions - despite struggling to get the Windows version up and running. Now, it has come to an inevitable but largely unwelcome conclusion: there's no way it can actually release a playable version of the game on either platform.

'We are very sorry to confirm that Batman: Arkham Knight will no longer be coming to Mac and Linux,' the company announced in a statement on Steam late last night. 'If you have pre-ordered Batman: Arkham Knight for Mac or Linux, please apply for a refund via Steam.'
