Nordic Games has announced that it is bringing back the ill-fated THQ brand, adopting the name THQ Nordic and teasing 23 projects in active development with 13 yet to be publicly announced.
From billion-dollar highs in 2007 to
Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in 2012, the story of THQ is one of rags-to-riches-to-rags-again. The company was formally
split up in 2013 with
multiple buyers making off with various assets from the company, including rights to the name and its various gaming-related franchises. A year later, the relatively young Nordic Games
announced that it had picked up the THQ brand, and now we know why: it's rebranding itself to THQ Nordic.
'
One could say the most defining moment for our company happened in 2013, grabbing headlines like “Who the FUCK is Nordic Games?”, “Darksiders Gets Bought By…Nordic Games?”, and “Nordic Games explains who the f they are, plans for THQ assets”,' joked Nordic Games founder Lars Wingefors of his company's history. '
Funny enough, back then, this was so true. Until that point, we had been a low profile publisher uttering expletives of our own along the way, and all of a sudden we found ourselves in the international gaming media spotlight. We knew then, with great certainty, that we’d just made the best deal in our company´s history.'
The rebranded company will, Wingefors has confirmed, continue to concentrate on exploitation of the THQ franchises it picked up following the company's demise. These include Darksiders, Destroy All Humans!, Frontlines: Fuel of War, Titan Quest, and Red Faction.
