Developer Nixxes Software has warned fans that its previous announcement of DirectX 12 support in Deus Ex: Mankind Divided was a little premature, and that support for Microsoft's latest API won't be available at launch.

Following the release of official system requirements for the game earlier this month, a spokesperson for Nixxess Software - the company handling the Windows port of the title, which will also launch on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 - has warned that DirectX 12 support will not be available on day one. 'The Deus Ex franchise originated on PC, and we’re passionate about continuing to provide the best experience possible to our long-time fans and players on the PC,' the statement reads. 'Contrary to our previous announcement, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, which is shipping on August 23rd, will unfortunately not support DirectX 12 at launch. We have some extra work and optimisations to do for DX12, and we need more time to ensure we deliver a compelling experience.'

According to Nixxes Software, the DirectX 12 support will be added in a post-launch patch. 'Our teams are working hard to complete the final push required here though,' the message concludes, 'and we expect to release DX12 support on the week of September 5th! We thank you for your patience, passion, and support.'

The mild push-back on DirectX 12 support follows a somewhat troubled development cycle for the game which has seen publisher Square Enix and developer Eidos Montreal delay its launch by six months and cancel a controversial pre-order bonus programme critics had likened to a pyramid selling scheme.

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided launches on the August 23 for Windows PCs, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.

Is there any difference in the visuals between DX11 and 12? Or is better performance the 'only' thing DX12 offers?

I would say no to that. Games don't look any better or worse on DX12 tbh.

Multi adaptor support - like using an AMD *AND* an Nvidia card in a sort of hybrid SLI/Crossfire mode is DX12 exclusive, AFAIK... though how well that will work, considering how much of a P.I.T.A. both SLI and Crossfire can be with some games, is another thing altogether.

Yeah, that's my conclusion at the moment. DX12 offers performance improvement but not shiny new graphics features.
