Reports from retailers are giving us some clue as to the price of the HD-DVD add-on drive for the Xbox 360, expected to be on the shelves in time for Christmas.

Eurogamer says that the drive will cost £199 and will come bundled with two HD-DVD titles. However, buying a bundle including the drive will be a relatively cheap option in the run-up to the holiday, with the Premium console bundle and the HD-DVD drive coming in at under £400 - possibly as low as £375, if the reports are to be believed. That's just £100 on top of the Premium's price now.

The 360 core system has already had a price cut to £199 recently. The Premium system won't get a price cut from its £279 tag this Christmas, but will come with a bundled game to tempt buyers into the purchase.

Of course, the popularity of the HD-DVD drive remains to be seen. Many consumers don't really see the advantage of high-def movies, and playing them with the Xbox 360's whirring fans blasting away in the background will possibly not make for the most immersive experience.

Will you be picking up the high-def drive for £200? Will one of the new 360 bundles tempt you into some next-gen console loving this Christmas, especially given the absense of the PS3? Let us know your thoughts over in the forums.
