2K Games has today announced that it will be releasing a new stand-alone expansion pack for Civilization IV this autumn, titled Colonization.

The game is completely stand alone then, despite being titled as an expansion pack, and is essentially a remake of Sid Meier's Colonization series from the days of yore. Players are given a chance to play as one of four leading nations in the race to take over the then-New World.

As far as extra features go, Civ IV: Colonization is boasting new and improved graphics and new diplomacy features for those pansy hippies who don't want to just battle it out like real men strategy game players.

Last time we had a crack at a Civilization game was with the last Civ IV expansion pack - Beyond the Sword, which we really rather liked. With the huge selection of mods and tweaks in that though, you've got to wonder if the world really needs another Civ game just yet.

Of course, the answer to that is pretty obvious - according to your reactions in the forums, the Civ series is one of the most popular games among bit-tech readers - solely responsible for inducting many of you into the gaming lifestyle.

Excited about another Civ game, or are you still enjoying the originals? Let us know in the forums.
