Valve is rumoured to be announcing a new game later today and, while Valve hasn't released any official hints, it is heavily speculated to be a new Defence of the Ancients game.

The rumours mainly come from a series of trademarks Valve filed to protect the DOTA and Defence of the Ancients names, which appeared after Defence of the Ancients Allstars developer, Icefrog, was hired by Valve and put in charge of a new project.

More recently, voice actor Jon St. John, best known for providing the voice of Serious Sam tweeted that he was recording voice work with Valve for a new DOTA game - though the tweet has since been removed.

Valve's official line is that it will be announcing a new title later today via Game Informer, though it won't disclose exactly what it is. Game Informer hasn't hidden the fact that it was visiting Icefrog just last week though.

Defence of the Ancients is a small tactics, avatar-based strategy which grew a new genre out a Warcraft 3 mod.

We'll bring you more details when we receive them, but for now all there is is a lot of very convincing rumours.
