Gran Turismo 5 boss Kazunori Yamauch has commented that he wants to release Gran Turismo 5 as soon as possible - something we're not sure anyone is actually against, really.

Gran Turismo 5 has been in development for a while now, with even the delays getting delayed it seems. Although Polyphony Digital released a cut-down (read: demo) version of the game as a PlayStation 3 download title a while back, Gran Turismo 5: Prologue mostly failed to live up to expectations.

The good news though is that the game is apparently getting much closer to release now, with a few new features recently having been confirmed at E3 2009 - most notably the addition of car damage models, which is a first for the long-running series and something which doubtlessly lengthened the development time for the anticipated title.

"I want to release it as fast as I can, but GT5 for us, when you talk about its status, it's at a point we can release it any time we want," said Kazunori Yamauch in a comment to Eurogamer.

"[But] we can always keep working on it. It's very important for us to make sure everything is done perfectly and everything is done in detail."

There's still no firm release date announced for Gran Turismo 5 on the PlayStation 3, nor has there been any real confirmation of whether or not the rumoured PC version of GT5 will materialise either, though the equally delayed Gran Turismo PSP has been confirmed as a launch title for Sony's PlayStation Go.
