Veteran PC peripheral maker Func continued its re-emergence from the mouse-pad shadows following its
excellent MS-3 mouse by unveiling a number of new additions at Computex 2013 that look to place it right into the mix of the peripheral market.
First up is Func KB-460 mechanical keyboard. A full array of Cherry MX red keys, an integrated USB 2 hub, full roll-over and individual key LED lighting are par for the course for a high-end keyboard these days, but what caught our eye here was the price. Launching at £79.99 inc. VAT its quite bit cheaper than similarly spec’d competitors. Can it stand up to a DOTA 2 5-man wipe rage quit? We’ll await our review sample hopeful.
Also on show was Func’s prototype of its new headset, the HS-260. With huge soft circum-aural ear cups as well as both detachable and reversible headphone cable and microphone its already looking to stand out in what’s a very congested market. With all the controls on the headset itself and audio tuned for a flat EQ it sounded pleasant enough in a tentative quick ten second trade-show-floor listen. The design is still in a prototype though, and we expect the final product to be heavier on headband padding.
We’re quietly optimistic about Func’s peripheral offerings; if it can deliver the expected quality at the prices hinted at on the show floor, there’s no reason why it won’t make a splash in the peripheral market.
