Cooltek has announced its latest entry in the case market, a low-cost noise-insulated number for ATX motherboards dubbed the Cooltek X4.
Designed as an upgrade to the X3, launched back in July last year, the Cooltek X4 accepts ATX and micro-ATX motherboards in a mid-tower layout. Two 5.25" external drive bays are included, along with single USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 ports and HD Audio connectivity on the front panel. Internally, there are four 3.5" drive bays with an additional mounting point below the cage; none, however, will accept 2.5" drives without a 2.5"-to-3.5" mounting bracket.
So far, so budget - but where Cooltek is hoping to make a killing is in the noise-sensitive market. The case is constructed from 0.5mm steel with sound-absorbing foam coating the front and side panels. This does, however, mean that airflow is restricted: there's room for only a single 80mm fan as an outtake at the rear, with no other mount points included. As is common with most budget cases, the power supply is mounted at the upper-rear of the case to provide additional heat extraction.
Cooltek claims that the X4 can support graphics cards up to 275mm in length and tower heatsinks of up to 145mm in height. The case, available in a matt-black finish with brushed-plastic front-panel, measures 175mm in width, 425mm in depth and 408mm in height and weighs a claimed 3.5Kg complete with bundled 80mm fan.
The Cooltek X4 has launched now, but is yet to be picked up by UK distributors. Its recommended retail price is set at €32.99 including VAT (around £25), putting it firmly at the bottom end of the noise-insulated case market. More details are available on the
official website.
