The flagship Sony Blu-ray player won't now launch until August 15, according to reports.

Gizmodo says that the delayed release date for the BDP-S1 was quietly posted to the Sony tech website.

The $1000 player will now arrive almost four months later than originally planned, and three months later than the Toshiba HD-DVD player.

Samsung's first Blu-ray player will launch on June 25, beating Sony to market - although there is no guarantee that Samsung will hit this date either. Films are scheduled to hit on the same day.
