Samsung has made what are arguably some of the best displays in the business. One doesn't have to look very far to find someone preaching the quality of the displays, myself included. My 215TW is probably one of the best investments I've ever made in computer equipment.

Of course, not everyone really wants to blow £250 / US$400 on only 21" of screen real estate, no matter what the quality. And others just want, well, bigger - 24" seems to be a new favourite amongst readers, for example. So it's a good thing that Samsung has now augmented its mid-range lineup with today's announcement of two new monitors.

The first new kid on the block is a 24" BW series display (model 245BW), which is Samsung's flagship mid-range part. It sports a 1000:1 contrast ratio (3000:1 'dynamic') and 400 cd/m² brightness and only a 5ms response time. Plus of course a 1080p-tastic 1920 x 1200 resolution. Overall, it looks to be a well-built display and a nice addition to the popular BW lineup - and retailing at only around US$550, it's a sure fit into anyone's budget that's looking for 24" of screen.

You can preorder it over at scan for only £367. UK stock doesn't arrive until next week but this will be the first 24" monitor under £400!

Also added to the lineup is the new 226CW, which one could argue is more 'gamer' focused. The 22" display features a 1000:1 contrast ratio, 1680 x 1050 resolution and 300 cd/m² brightness on a super-quick 2ms grey-to-grey response time. Whether the 2ms response really makes that much of a difference is often a subject of debate, but it is a nice number to see on the packaging. The screen retails for US$380. UK pricing was not available at the time of publication.
