Bit-tech and Asus Summer Overclocking Summit

Last week we invited 22 bit-tech readers to attend an overclocking event at HMV's Gamerbase in the Trocadero. The event kicked off shortly before lunchtime on 30 June, just around the corner from Piccadilly Circus, with bit-tech and Asus staff, including a Republic of Gamers product manager, in attendance too.

The lucky readers had entered the competition we posted back in June. They were split into six teams, each pitching their P67 overclocking skills against the others to bag some awesome prizes. Check out the video below to see what some of the contestants thought of the event.

Following introductions from various members of Asus and bit-tech, the teams were introduced to their test benches, which sported Intel Core i5-2500K CPUs, Asus P8P67 motherboards and Asus GTX 560 Ti 1GB graphics cards. In addition to this, there were also Adata SSDs and 4GB DDR3 kits, Thermaltake PSUs and Frio CPU coolers, and Tt eSports mice and keyboards.

The goal was to simply push the hardware to its limits, and beat the other teams by posting the fastest scores in our Handbrake H.264 video-encoding test and in 3DMark11. The event kicked off just before lunch, and each team had a little over an hour to familiarise themselves with the hardware so that they could squeeze every last MHz out of their CPUs before the benchmarking started.
