Project AXE-R's been a long time coming, having been a work-in-progress for nigh on 2 years. Nenad can be found on our forums as NeSSa and is a regular mainstay of the Mod of the Month competitions, so it comes as no real surprise that his creation garnered so much interest in the CMWS.

AXE-R is a case of meticulous planning and attention to detail. Since a scratch build doesn't use off the shelf solutions, it's up to the modder to work out the kinks and design parts that fulfil all the necessary roles. To achieve the precision necessary for this style of project, Nenad made extensive use of CAD modelling and laser cutting to ensure everything aligned just right. This is not easy. With so many elements going on at once, it's difficult to keep track of every single cable, tubing route, hardware mount, and so on. Materials rarely behave in the way you plan them to, and production of any custom parts can be a lengthy process. I think it's fair to say that the effort was worth it, with the mod not only scooping up the First Prize for the 'Scratch Build' category but also the 'People's Choice Award'.
