Craig Ferrie - MT. MODS

Project Log

Craig's opted for an ambitious steampunk theme with his build, deciding to take the weathered and worn look to the max. His design not only changes much of both the interior and exterior of the chassis, but it also features moving elements such as a series of meshed gears and even plans for jets of steam!

Before the hardware had even arrived, Craig got to work modding some of the aesthetic elements going into the build, beginning with this outdoor lamp that he retrofitted with RGB LEDS and painted to match.

He then turned his attention to weathering the bejesus out of a pair of innocent flow meters, additionally fitting them with minute gears. No component was safe as the rust advanced further still on to the fan controllers!

For the chassis itself, Craig removed the rear panel, adding in struts for support, then focused on the panel weathering. Craig chose to do this by applying a chemical rusting formula to the surfaces so that they grow naturally, rather than by mimicking the effect with paintwork.

The interior sections were then laser-cut so that the lighting can glow through.

It goes without saying there's plenty more to see in Craig's Project Log so be sure to check it out!
