With the paint left to fully cure, attention is turned to finishing the window. First I measured and cut some plexi with a sharp knife.
A bit more marking and cutting for the handle...
...and voilà! Time for a colour scheme check. The window is not really white, that is its protective backing film.
I had some tint left over from the
Macro Black project. I just needed to decide on which colour to use. Silver or black...?
Black won the day because I felt it would suit the design best. So the black tint was
CAREFULLY applied. Well duh!
Cleanliness is paramount! The tint should be applied immediately after removing the backing from the plexi. Spray the plexi with your soapy water, (two drops detergent to about one quart water), and squeegee off. Repeat several times to ensure the plexi is spotless and dust free. I repeat this whilst applying the tint.
Start applying the tint from one edge of the plexi, pulling away the tints backing as you squeegee the tint. (Keep the tint wet as this stops the squeegee from sticking). Keep squeegeeing and feeding out the tint ensuring no air is trapped or water left underneath. Once you start don't stop until you're finished. Take your time.
With the tint dried, double sided sticky tape was applied around the window opening. Any excess tape was cut away with a knife and the window stuck down. In case you were wondering, my preferred double sided sticky tape is the sort used to stick carpets down. Awesome stuff!
A couple of shots taken straight after just to see how it was taking shape (complete with plenty of finger marks).
