Sony Ericsson has announced the newest member of the P-family of smartphones, the
P990, and it promises to be one of the most feature-packed handsets on the market.
For starters, the phone is now 3G, supporting both video calls as well as 3G high speed internet access. It also retains the standard GSM 900/1800/1900 modes that will allow you use existing mobile networks.
The other key specifications read like a road warrior's wet dream:

802.11b WiFi networking

2 Megapixel camera

Video recording

Media player

FM radio with RDS

Opera 8 web browser

Up to 4GB of storage via Memory Stick PRO Duo

The 262,000 colour 2.8-inch touchscreen is now shorter, yet wider, with an enhanced resolution of 240x320 pixels over the previous models' 208x320. The other major external change is the addition of a QWERTY keyboard mounted below the screen, similar to the popular Blackberry.
Workaholics will be able to view Microsoft Excel, Word, Powerpoint and Adobe PDF files on the go, send and receive email like a Blackberry, and even using WiFi hotspots to browse the web. Several staff members here at
bit-tech already own P900-series phones and use them to keep up to date wherever they find themselves around the world.
The P990 is likely to be top of our shopping lists when it is released in Q1 2006. Pricing has yet to be confirmed, but since when has that stopped a geek buying the latest 'must-have' toy? Form an orderly queue in
News Discussion and we can collectively drool over the photos until after Christmas.
Traditional phone on one side, 2 Megapixel camera on the other.
The P990 sorts a Blackberry-esque mini QWERTY keyboard below the screen - far
easier to use than the P910's keyboard inside the flip panel.
The P990 supports 3G video calls and Opera 8 web browsing via 3G, GPRS or 802.11b WiFi.
