This is the end of Microsoft as we know it!

Bill Gates is to "reorder his priorities" and move from his role as president of Microsoft to focus more on his charities, specifically the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation whose works includes providing health and education to poorer countries of the world. He himself has provided the foundation with $5 billion of his own money.

There are a lot of critics who say that Microsoft is all about money, and charity is just to ease the guilt. But could this sudden news change the way we think about the software giant?

“This was a hard decision for me, I’m very lucky to have two passions that I feel are so important and so challenging. As I prepare for this change, I firmly believe the road ahead for Microsoft is as bright as ever.”

Gates predicts bright future but how will Microsoft change without Bill Gates looking over everybody's shoulders at Redmond?

He is due to leave Microsoft in 2008. What do you think will happen when he's gone? Let us know over in the forums.
