The last version of Vista to hit beta before the final 'gold' master is created has now been released by Microsoft.

Release Candidate 2, which unsurprisingly follows Release Candidate 1, has been released to testers. In other words, it'll be on your favourite Torrent site right about now, if you're that way inclined.

The new RC2 fixes bugs but doesn't add more functionality.

Vista is scheduled to ship in its business versions before the end of the year, possibly as soon as November. The consumer version, which includes Media Center, will be shipping at the end of January, although Microsoft again refused to committ to a final release date last week.

Vista has been delayed for consumers primarily because of problems getting the MCE components of the OS to operate reliably.
