Steve Ballmer, Microsoft's energetic CEO, has confessed to brainwashing his family, laying down the law by banning services from rival companies despite their clear superiority to Microsoft-flavoured alternatives.
In a recent interview with Fortune Magazine, Ballmer was asked if he owned an iPod. His response revealed a curious insight into just how deep-rooted industry rivalry is.
"No, I do not," he replied. "Nor do my children. My children--in many dimensions they're as poorly behaved as many other children, but at least on this dimension I've got my kids brainwashed: You don't use Google, and you don't use an iPod."
The poor blighters. First, they get
screwed over on beating the queues with Xbox 360 and next we find they're forced to use MSN Search and use Windows Media Player to listen to music. Then again, when your Dad is the 24th richest person in the world, worth the best part of
US$12 billion, life probably isn't all
that bad.
You can read a larger sample of the interview on the

April 3 edition of FORTUNE Magazine.
