Here's a short little news bit for the penguin-heads. Apparently some time yesterday the Gluck server of Debian.org was successfully hacked and has since been taken offline.

As a result of this, quite a few services provided by Gluck are currently not functional, including:

cvs, ddtp, lintian, people, popcon, planet, ports, and release.

It is unclear at this time whether or not there was any real damage to the system, but it does seem like the hackers got through Gluck and into other servers in the Debian project. Therefore, many of the other servers have been locked down to evaluate the compromise further and determine what, if anything, was damaged.

Why, exactly, someone would feel the need to hack the Debian servers is well beyond us...perhaps they have an irrational fear of penguins?
