We recently heard the details of the American launch of Nintendo's Wii, which the company is whipping out on November 18th for $250. However, Ninty had done a good job of keeping quiet for the European launch -
until the press conference today, that is.
Wii all know the basics, so I won't bore you with more info about the console (except a reminder that it will be region-free). So here's the particulars that you'll care about:
Launch package - £179 / €249
- Wii Console
- One Wiimote
- One Nunchuck attachment
- Wii Sports
Extra Wiimote - £29 / €39
Nunchuck Attachment - £14 / €19
Games - £34-39 / €49-59
You can expect around 25 titles available to launch with the Wii, not including Wii Sports. On top of that, the "Virtual Console" feature will be available immediately upon launch to purchase older games. Unfortunately, pricing for those games was not listed. However, Americans are expected to pay around $8 for N64 titles, and less for older games. Since there seems to be a 1:1 correlation between USD/Euro (hey, at least it's not $=£ this time), you could probably figure the high end to be about 6 quid. About 15 titles will be available for download in Europe, with between 5 and 10 new games released per month thereafter.
