Bioware is collaborating with London-based indie studio Failbetter Games on a secret story-driven project.
Failbetter, best known for the highly successful and critically acclaimed narrative browser based game Fallen London, announced the partnership on its blog.
'Keeping secrets doesn't come naturally to us. We are excitable. We love our work. We love talking about our work,' said Failbetter's chief narrative officer Alexis Kennedy. 'For the last year, on and off, we've been working in absolute secrecy on a project for a much larger company. When we've gone quiet for no obvious reason, it's because we've been heads-down on this.'
Kennedy adds that the studio no longer accepts client work with rare exceptions and that working with Bioware definitely counts as one of these exceptions.
The exact nature of the project remains unannounced, other than the description that it is a 'Failbettery' project in style. This, along with the fact that it is a partnership with Bioware, would suggest that whatever it is has a strong narrative and story focus.
Failbetter is also currently working on Sunless Sea, an exploration and seafaring RPG based in the Fallen London world. The title successfully completed a round of Kickstarter funding last October with the game estimated to be due for release around May 2014.
Bioware's latest work has been focused around Dragon Age: Inquisition which is due for release later this year.
