According to an article on
Eurogamer, James Cameron, the Academy award-winning director behind motion picture classics, such as Aliens, The Terminator, True Lies and Titanic has revealed plans to produce a massively multiplayer online game based on his forthcoming feature film,
Project 880.
At the moment, it is believed that Cameron is busy working on the screenplay for Project 880 but hopes to start working on the associated game soon.
In an interview with
BusinessWeek, he revealed that he's expecting to release the game several weeks before the Project 880 universe gets its storyline on the big screen.
"We'll create a world for people and then later present a narrative in that world," stated Cameron.
"I want to see developers create games in which players can add to the worlds as they go along, so you can see what hundreds of thousands of people in this game environment can create. It's like each is being handed a tool set.... Instead of creating a $50 million game, you're creating $2 million games and letting them grow themselves."
He then went on to say that
"You are exploring the interaction of technology and the human imagination, and you play it out in a highly competitive, fast-paced interaction."
Details of the Project 880 universe are scarce at the moment, but both the game and film are expected to be released towards the end of 2007, beginning of 2008. Discuss these interesting developments
