Classic point and click adventure Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers is being remade and will be released in 2014.
The original creator, Jane Jensen, is heading the project and announced the remake over Twitter. Her studio Pinkerton Road is developing the game and Activision, which owns the original series producer Sierra, will handle publishing.
The remake intends to mark the game's 20th anniversary with the original title coming out in 1993. It will be released on PC, Mac, Ipad and Android platforms.
Some of the content will be updated, with Jensen telling
GameTrailers that she intends to increase the
'New Orleans flavour and also the spookiness where possible' as well as a few new backgrounds and puzzles. However, this will not replace any of the original content.
The developers will however have to re-record the original audio, including Tim Curry's voice-over for the main character, as this has been lost and the audio that shipped with the original game is too compressed to use.
If the Sins of the Fathers remake is successful, Jensen hopes that it will help persuade Activision to give the green light over an all new Gabriel Knight title and that she has two fully developed ideas for future games in the series.
Jensen headed up a Kickstarter project to set up Pinkerton Road and develop its first title Moebius, which was funded in May 2012. The game will be a third person adventure game with point and click mechanics and sophisticated puzzles. It is due for release in either December 2013 or January 2014.
