It's been confirmed that Phil Harrison, former Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios president, is heading to Atari.

PS3Fanboy has confirmed that Harrison will take up position with Infogrames, the parent company of Atari, as the Directeur Général Délégué - or President.

Harrison will report directly to David Gardner, CEO of Infogrames, who is set to announce tomorrow how Atari will turn itself back into profit. We're betting that Phil Harrison will factor heavily into those plans.

Apparently the plan is for Harrison and Gardner to turn Atari into a "leading online games company".

The press releases are full of quotes that say Atari has a "strong financial foundation" to build on - but we're still a little dubious. Atari has been in trouble for a fair old whack now and if Harrison can turn it around it'll be a minor miracle.

Still, having Harrison publicly leave Sony in favour of Atari is a bold statement and could bode well.
