Just Cause 3 has been officially announced by Avalanche Studios.
The new game will be set on a group of fictitious Mediterranean islands and players will once again step into the shoes of Rico Rodriguez. The grappling hook and parachute mechanics are coming back and are also being joined by a wingsuit.
Avalanche Studios also claim that the grappling hook will be ‘vastly improved’ from its functionality in Just Cause 2.
According to Game Informer, the next entry in the Just Cause series is due for release in 2015 and is being developed for Playstation 4, Xbox One and PC.
Avalanche Studios also confirmed that Just Cause 3 will not be a free-to-play title or contain any micro-transaction features. The studio went out its way to confirm this as early leaked screenshots of the game implied that this was not the case.
‘Like most games, this one went through an exploratory phase where we looked at different control schemes, different technologies, different business models,’’ said Avalanche chief creative officer Christofer Sundberg. ’Those leaked screenshots show aspects of that process, and in no way reflect the game we are making today.’
Sundberg went on to clarify that the studio will likely be looking into releasing DLC packs and new downloadable items, but apart from that it will be a retail box and complete digital download.
Just Cause 2 was released back in 2011 and became a fan-favorite thanks to its chaotic open world and the hugely enjoyable grappling hook feature. An equally chaotic multiplayer mod has been developed by the community and given Avalanche Studio’s official blessing which is currently available on Steam.
