Nintendo fanboys seem to be continuing their efforts to raise money for charity via eBay auctions, with the recent
auctioning of a DS signed by Shigeru Miyamoto, Satoru Iwata and Charles Martinent.
Miyamoto, often hailed as the father of modern gaming, is well known for being the creator of the
Legend of Zelda games, as well as
Mario. Satoru Iwata is the CEO of Nintendo and collaborated with Miyamoto on the
Legend of Zelda and
Super Mario games.
Mario, the Italian plumber who was famously created using the design brief of;
"a short man with a strong sense of justice who is not attractive", is voiced by Charles Martinent in the the video games. Martinent also voices Luigi, Wario and Wa-luigi.
Bidding for the celebrity DS started at $200 and is due to last until May 19th, with 25 percent of the profits going to support the
Child's Play charity which is run by the team behind
Penny Arcade. The Child's Play charity is dedicated to supplying games and consoles for children's hospitals and wards across the world.
By visiting the
website, generous gamers can even select which games to buy for specific hospitals thanks to the wish lists posted by participating wards.
The auction of the DS isn't the first of its type, with
a stunning Zelda themed DS also being sold for charity recently.
It seems that these days all consoles have a charity of choice. Nintendo fans continue to raise money for Child's Play while PS3 users have generously doubled the processing power available to
protein folding experiments.
