We're just over a month away from the December 8th launch of the Wii in Europe, and a
title list is starting to form. Nintendo has acknowledged 27 different games that will be available before the end of the year (most of which will be ready at launch), and promised another 31 games available on the virtual console.
Rather than try to force this into paragraphs, here's a quick run-down by publisher:
- Nintendo - Wii Sports (bundled), Zelda: Twilight Princess, Wii Play;
- Activision - Call of Duty 3, Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam;
- EA - Need for Speed: Carbon, Madden NFL 07;
- Midway - Happy Feet, Rampage: Total Destruction;
- THQ - Cars, Barnyard, Spongebob Squarepants: Creature from the Krusty Krab;
- Ubisoft - Blazing Angels, Far Cry: Vengeance, GT Pro Series, Monster 4x4 World Circuit, Open Season, Rayman Raving Rabbids, Red Steel, and the big one - Splinter Cell: Double Agent.
Other titles to be on the lookout for include WarioWare in January and ExciteTruck in February.
The virtual console will have its own love, with 31 more titles slated so far. The more notable ones include:
- NES - Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Jr., Mario Bros., Solomon's Key, The Legend of Zelda, Urban Champion,Wario's Woods, Baseball, Pinball, Soccer, Tennis, Ice Hockey;
- SNES - Donkey Kong Country, F-Zero,Sim City;
- N64 - Super Mario 64;
- SEGA - Sonic the Hedgehog, Altered Beast, Golden Axe, Columns, Gunstar Heroes, Ecco the Dolphin, Space Harrier II, Toe Jam and Earl, Ristar, Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine;
- Turbografx - Bonk's Adventure, Super Star Soldier, Victory Run, Bomberman '93, Dungeon Explorer.
The virtual console pricing is the big news - NES games will run about 500 Wii points (5 euros), Turbografx will be 600, SNES and Sega will be 800, and N64 will be 1000. The games will be stored on the unit's internal flash memory, which will hopefully not fill up too quickly - Nintendo promises that this collection will continue to grow.
